London, July 28th 2005: Mercury Records managing director Jason Iley has announced the appointment of Paul Adam as Senior Director of A&R.
Adam, who signed multi-platinum successes Busted and McFly while heading the Universal label at sister company Island Records, starts at Mercury Records this week. He is reunited with Iley who until June was general manager of Island. They previously worked together at Polydor where as A&R Director Adam signed acts including Cast and Ian Brown.
Adam says: “Having spent over three happy and successful years at Island Records I felt I was ready for a new challenge. Jason Iley is a great executive and a friend so when he approached me to run the A&R team at Mercury I did not need much persuading.
“I have made many friends at Island and forged some fantastic relationships. I will miss many people there. I would like to thank Nick Gatfield for his support during my time at Island.”
Jason Iley says: “I have worked with Paul for seven successful years and we have always had hit records together. He is one of the most knowledgeable and experienced A&R executives in the British music industry and I am delighted he has agreed to join me at Mercury.”
Iley has also announced the arrival of Scott Maclachlan as senior A&R manager. Maclachlan has previously held A&R roles at Multiply and Jive, where he signed Groove Armada.
Iley says: “Scott is an outstanding A&R executive, whose skills complement the existing senior A&R team of Richard O’Donovan and Mike Sault. I am confident the A&R team under Paul Adam will provide the breadth of repertoire which will make Mercury the biggest label in the UK.”
Maclachlan says: "I was so impressed by the energy, drive and enthusiasm of Jason and Paul, and their determination to make the label a success, that I really didn't think twice about being part of the team."
Matt Willis and James Bourne from Busted have also announced that they will be signing their new respective deals with Mercury Records. James’ new album is expected this year whilst Matt is presently working on his new album due for release in 2006.
